The preservation of the family is the real source of security for our communities. It is our conviction, therefore, that parents have the right to rear their own child. It is also our conviction the public and private service agencies have the obligation to assist their efforts to preserve their families. Therefore, the purposes of this association are:

  1. To promote the family centered service philosophy in Michigan of delivering services to families in their home in order to achieve permanence for children when appropriate, while maintaining and strengthening family integrity.
  2. To encourage and support the development of new and existing home-based family programs with Michigan by providing information, technical assistance and resources when needed, providing and promoting training through conferences and workshops, and supporting funding initiatives on the local and state level.
  3. To provide a professional identity to home-based family service provides through a statewide network, association newsletter, and a voice to state agencies and government on behalf of our interests and concerns.
  4. To advocate with state governed agencies and legislative bodies on behalf of the association regarding legislation for family policy and resources to support a variety of home-based family program: and
  5. To uphold the Michigan Home-Based Family Service Association's standards of home-based family services
